
Sailing lovers to compete for Dapeng Bay Cup at Pingtung County regatta on April 11-12Staff Writer
The finest sailing lovers in Taiwan are warming up in beautiful windy weather in the waters of the Dapeng Bay area to boost their bids for the Dapeng Bay Cup during the regatta in Pingtung County on April 11 and 12. The Tourism Bureau through the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration is seeking to lure tourists to Dapeng Bay through the regatta. A few foreigners form the United States and Canada have signed up as racers.
Big and small sailboats side by side with kayaks propelled by double-bladed paddles are cutting exciting silhouettes against Dapeng Bay waters and Pintung County skies.
The sailing competition this year will see over 180 racing boats in the water. Over 260 aquatic sports hobbyists have registered to join different events.
The kayaking event, which is being introduced for the first time this year, has attracted 132 registered participants, making up 33 teams. The races for kayaks and medium-sized sailboats will unfold on April 11.
Races for the Dapeng Bay Cup will involve 25 laser dinghies, 6 radiant boats, 38 windsurfing boats, 20 standard sailboats, 38 fun sailboats for men, and 26 fun sailboats for women.
Side activities on April 11 will include beer drinking contest, balloon blowing contest, and clown performance.
Belly dancing show, magic acts, karaoke singing program for would-be stars, and band numbers will entertain the public and fan a lot of fun and excitement on the beach. Prizes to be given away will include Kaohsiung-Macau round-trip air ticket, local homestay accommodation, Tonggang sailfish shreds and other local delicacies.
The winner of the Dapeng Bay Cup logo design contest will be announced. Online voting is done by the general public A bike worth NT$10,000 will be the grand prize.
